Ororo Heated Jacket – Is it worth the hype?

January is usually a pretty chilly time for a lot of places in the world. So we’re going to look into a product that was built specifically to keep you warm during this type of weather. Personally, I’m not a fan of being cold, so if you’re like me and love to be comfortably warm in chilly/cold weather, then the Ororo Heated Jacket is a must have piece of heated wearable clothing.

How Does the Ororo Heated Jacket Work?

The Ororo Heated jack is powered by a lithium ion battery pack. On the front of the jacket, is the Ororo logo. To turn the jacket on, press the logo. You will know the jacket was turned on properly when the logo symbol begins to light up. There are 3 heat zones in the jacket, which are located in the left and right chest area, and in the mid-back. That is where you’ll begin feeling the heat shortly after turning on the jacket. The jacket can be turned off by pressing and holding the logo button. You’ll know the jacket has been turned off when the logo is no longer lit up.

Battery Usage & Life

Before turning on the Ororo Heated jacket for the first time, it’s important to make sure the battery pack is sufficiently charged. To check if the battery is charged, all you have to do is shake it and check the indicator lights. If all of them light up, then that means it is fully charged. Then, you can plug it into the power cable in the interior pocket of the jacket. Once the battery is charged, it can also be used to charge your cell phone or other electronic devices using a USB chord.

The battery usage hours vary based on what temperature level the battery is set to.

• Low Level – Up to 10 hours

• Medium – Up to 6 hours

• High – Up to 3 hours

Adjustable Temperature Levels

There are 3 heating level settings for the Ororo Jacket. The light on the logo will represent which heating set it is currently set to.

1. Blue Light = Low Heat

2. White Light (default) = Medium Heat

3. Red Light = High Heat

Low heat is set to the temperature level of 100 degrees Fahrenheit, Medium is 120 degrees, and high is 130 degrees. To change the temperature setting, just continue hitting the logo button until you see the color that represents what level of heat you want. However, keep in mind that the higher the heat setting, the quicker your battery uses power. But you can always order an extra battery pack if you know for a fact you plan to use the battery to charge electronic devices, or use a higher heat level.

Water & Wind Resistance

The Ororo jacket consists of water resistance fabric. It should not be used in replace of a rain jacket, because it will not keep you completely dry if you were getting drenched in rain. However, it is made of polyester which causes water to roll off of it. So it is beneficial in light rain. It is also built to keep wind from blowing through the jacket and ensuring excess heat isn’t lost.

Machine Washable

The Ororo jacket has been designed to endure over 50 machine wash cycles. However, before washing the jacket, there are a few simple steps you need to do.

1. Remove battery pack from interior jacket pocket on the left side

2. Put the power cable back inside and close that zipper pocket.

Those 2 steps are essential before washing the jacket to ensure no damage. It is also highly recommended to only use cold water for the wash cycle. And when washing the jacket, DO NOT use bleach. Bleach is too strong and could destroy the heating insulation of the jacket. Last but not least, once the jacket is done washing, it is best recommended to hang dry your jacket. Any other method of drying may cause some type of damage.

Style Versatility

This brand of heated jacket has several styles for customers to choose from. The style we focused on in this article was the Ororo heated jacket with polyester material, which is available in men and women. There are also jackets available that are made with fleece instead. The main difference between the materials is that the fleece heated jacket would not be water resistant. However, the thicker fleece filling would help with retaining the warmth, and all the other features described still apply.

Ororo has also catered to those who would prefer to go sleeveless with the Ororo Heated Vest. Unlike the jackets, the vests only come designed with polyester. And they also do not come with detachable hoods. As for the polyester jackets, you could choose one that comes with a detachable hood or one that doesn’t. To sum that up more simply, I listed the style options below:

• Polyester jacket ( with or w/o detachable hood)

• Fleece jacket ( with or w/o detachable hood)

• Polyester vest

• Fleece vest

As far as the color schemes, it looks like the choices are between grey, black, and blue. Even though there aren’t many colors to choose from, I was impressed with the variety of styles Ororo provided.

Any drawbacks to the Ororo Heated Jack?

My goal is to always give a complete review of a product. So after doing my own research I looked into complaints that people may have had after using the Ororo Heated Jacket. I didn’t find many re-occurring issues that constantly showed up in reviews. It seemed the most common were issues where the jackets didn’t fit as expected. Also, I’ve seen multiple complaints about the price of buying an extra or replacement battery. Since I’m an amazon affiliate, I’m not allowed to state prices in my articles because they may change and that would leave me with sharing inaccurate information. However, you can check the price of the Ororo battery on amazon. There were also some individual cases where they received defected batteries out of the box, fortunately Ororo has a process to handle those type of situations.

After researching the drawbacks, my final thoughts are that the advantages of the Ororo Heated jack outweigh the drawbacks I was able to find. This jacket is very beneficial and can make a big difference for those working, exploring, and traveling in cold weather. I also believe they are reasonably priced and well-designed.

Where to buy?

The Ororo Men’s Heated Jacket and Ororo Women’s Heated Jacket are both available for purchase on Amazon.

  1. Where was this jacket when I was a teenager? My friends and I wanted to hang out where we could smoke and act like idiots, but stylish jackets were not warm back then. We’d be so terribly cold! I think this jacket would be great for a person of any age who needs to spend a lot of time outdoors. It looks fashionable, as well. Actually, I just clicked your link and there are many styles to choose from. The price isn’t bad as far as modern warm coats go. It’d be great for warming up your car in the morning, hunting, building a snowman, and other outdoor activities.

    • Yes this jacket seems like it would be great in just about any outdoor activity. And I think they did a great job with developing different styles to capture the eye of those interested in buying one. Thanks for reading Cathy.

  2. I had heard of the Ororo Heated Jacket from some friends who raved about it so I decided to do some research for myself to see if the hype was matched by performance (and of course at what price too). This article and review is timely for me, and very helpful.

It seems that overall buyers and users are happy with the performance of the jacket itself, if not the battery that is used to power the heating elements. That is not different from other similar products that I have heard of so I will check it out using the link you have provided. Thanks!

  3. The future is finally here.

I’ve dreamed about these types of clothes in the mast. The added value is that heating generation does not depend 100% on your own body heat but an external source of it. In my opinion, this is the way it’ll naturally be in the near future as a default.

The facts of making it modular help make it easily washable as any other type of clothes. This is a must to wildlife lovers as their lived may depend on any given time in their capacity to generating heat to avoid hypothermia.

It would be great if it could be paired with a solar panel charger for the batteries probably also modular, and able to be placed by the top of the shoulders and outer side of the arms.

I’ve loved this post! Thanks a lot for sharing!

    • Being powered by a solar panel charger sounds like a great idea. I believe with that type of technology it would definitely raise the prices of the jacket And probably be more difficult to implement. But that may be where it’s headed in the future. Thanks for your insight.

  4. This is an amazing jacket to have! I will do a business trip to Europe next month, and I’m sure it’s still cold there. This jacket should be a good fashion choice to wear there. Is there any complaints about how the battery and heat insulation easily damaged, event when taking proper step before washing it? My friend used to have a similar jacket (not Ororo). It was cheap but the heating function was easily broken just after washing it two times. I’ll check it on Amazon for the price. Thanks

    •  When doing my research of the jacket, I didn’t see any complaints about damage after washing it. But if you do decide to purchase please feel free to come back and share your experience with it in the comments.

  5. Thanks a lot for this review, the weather in January is something else when you talk about cold. Being able to withstand 50 machine wash cycle, have at least 3 different temperature levels are good points.
But I want to know of the health hazard, the batteries, do they have emissions like rays or the heating system. Is there any long-time effect on one’s health?

    • Great question. It’s as safe as any other lithium ion battery that we use in other aspects of our lives. As far as I know there isn’t any long term health effects.

  6. Hello there thanks for this awesome article it would be of great help to the public as it has been of help to me.i must say a big thanks once again as you have done a fantastic job not until now I have never heard of a jacket that has a heating system, and I have wished for something like this and this article as made my wish come true I would definitely get one for the cold season.

  7. wow this is amazing, I really want to first appreciate your effort in putting this great website together and writing this article. i am getting this jacket as soon as possible. i never came across this before now and i think the battery life is fair enough to keep me warm. thank you for this well researched article.

  8. If there is one thing I hate in the winter, it is being cold! This jacket looks like a life-saver for someone like me. I have often been hunting in the winter and been forced to pack it up early because I was so cold. I think this would eliminate the need to do that to some extent. You mentioned that it can endure up to 50 wash cycles. Does this mean the jacket is done for after that or the performance begins to diminish?

    • I think it was designed to withstand at minimum 50 wash cycles before it starts to take a toll on the jacket. I’m not sure what exactly happens once it reaches 50 but I can assume it may start to diminish eventually if it’s getting washed too much.

  9. Thank you for the very detailed and unbiased review. I can tell this review is real and honest, which is rare . I like how you gave details regarding how the jacket was useful for you personally, but also, especially, for the last bit about how this could theoretically save your life!

What backs that up though was your hyper detail.

I don’t demand “scientific journal” style datapoint accuracy, and most reviewers wouldn’t even bother doing that.
By the way, was the battery of this jacket ever reported exploded?

    Thanks for this great review!

  10. Hello. Thanks a lot for sharing with us such an amazing product.

I was born in a small town near the mountains, in Romania. I mean, the winters here are 6 months and there is very cold. This city is also called “little Siberia”. Because my dad has a job that requires him to work just outside, a jacket would help him a lot. He is always complaining that it is very cold and the last time he was in the hospital because he had a problem with his lungs. The price is very cheap $149.99 considering how much this jacket helps you.

Thanks again for your help. Wish you a happy new year!

    • Wow I couldn’t imagine having to deal with winter weather for 6 months. It sounds like this jacket would be a great fit for your dad. Thanks for reading

  11. Thanks a lot for such an amazing review about Ororo Heated Jacket and explanation are given.

I have been wanting a jacket like this for a long time, but I said that I should know about it before I buy it. I am planning a trip through Europe so it would certainly help me a lot. After reading this article I will definitely order one.

Thanks again and keep in touch.

  12. This is a pretty cool jacket because it takes staying warm to a whole new level. If I had to choose a style it would probably be polyester. Are there any heat conduction differences between the materials or are they made so that they are pretty similar?  what’s your favorite style?

    • As far as I know both materials were made to handle heat conduction similarly. And if I had to choose a favorite it would be the polyester as well so it could also be beneficial in the rain.

  13. What even is that jacket? It sounds and looks like a game-changer! A jacket which comes with a heater inside sounds to me like the perfect solution to cold and windy days especially this time of year.

You would think with the technology integrated it would take a hit on the design but it looks wearable and fashionable at the same time.

Thanks for sharing this I will definitely check it out!

    Josh

  14. Hi Jasmine,

I found this article very interesting; you have a very unique writing style! I also had no idea wearable technology was a big thing.

I have to say that a heated jacket is something that I often wish I had, especially since I prefer to dress light. Something that can keep me warm but is still relatively thin. I can’t stand wearing thick winter coats.

The Ororo heated jacket looks like it means business. Based on the first picture, though, it looks like it would be a bit uncomfortable to wear (but maybe that’s just because the heat spots look like metal grates).

Anyways, thanks for this informative article. I’ll definitely keep this on my radar for when I need a new jacket. I do have one question, though: how big is the battery and where is it stored?

    Isaac

    • Hey Isaac,

I don’t know the exact measurements of the battery but I believe they’re a little bit bigger than the size of a hand. I guess a good comparison may be the size of a small brick. And the battery is stored in an interior pocket of the jacket.

      Thanks for reading!

  15. I am so excited to have come across this article! My mom mentioned this jacket to me, but she could not remember the name of it. This is exactly what she was referring to and is so intriguing. I am always very cold and hate wearing an incredibly bulky jacket to stay warm. How bulky would you say this is? I love the versatility, where if you are indoors shopping you can turn it off, then when you go outside you can turn it back on. It also seems to be fairly easy to wash which is great news. I will definitely be trying this out!

  16. hi, it sounds like the complaints are not too bad. If it’s only people saying that the size is there only drawback, and not to mention replacing the batteries, that would be an annoyance for sure. I’m surprised that they do not have a full body ski suits that is heated. I think that would be useful in going to sports events in the the winter.

  17. Hey, I also heard earlier from my friend about Ororo Heated Jacket. Now I enjoy while reading your review on Ororo Heated Jacket. Really is awesome during cold weather. Its Adjustable Temperature Levels, Water & Wind Resistance make it amazing for everyone. I will go with ORORO Women’s Slim Fit Heated Jacket with Battery Pack and Detachable Hood. Thank you for helping me to choose the best for winter.

  18. I really enjoyed your review of the ororo heated jacket, but wanted to know whether the reviews of people that say the jacket didn’t fit, was this because of the battery? Or was it just because of the size of the jacket? I ask this, as does more space need to be accomodated in terms of the jacket size because of the battery?

    • From what I’ve seen, it didn’t fit because they were expecting the jacket to be cut bigger than how it came. The fitting issue didn’t have anything to do with the battery.

  19. The jacket when compared to all the jackets i have had is a life saver. This offers more than what a normal jacket would, i would really consider to buy this. Well the issue for me is that it only last a few hours, can it be utilised to be durable for morr than 13 hours under a quite some low temperature about – 2 degrees?

    • Well the higher you set the temperature of the jacket, the more power the battery uses. -2 is pretty cold so I’m sure you’d want the jacket set to medium or high. If the amount of hours is the problem, I would suggest getting an extra battery with the jacket. That way you could get double use out of the jacket in one day.

  20. This is a great review. I read it top to bottom.

This is an amazing product! I really wonder why I don’t see more of it here in Canada, where winters can be brutal. I checked out the price on Amazon and I think it’s not too expensive for such a useful item. I think the only drawback is the maximum number of washes

    • Yes I agree having to keep up with how many washes for the jacket is sort of a drawback, but based on the technology implemented in the jacket I think they did a pretty good job. I don’t think it’s too hard to only wash the jacket when it’s really needed. Thanks for reading

  21. I know, January we have it pretty bad here in NYC. It’s cold, windy and worst of all snowing month. I have been swearing by heat tech from Uniqlo all these years but what I found is that if you stand outside for too long nothing really works. I have never heard of Ororo before but heard about battery operated jackets. Thank you so much for your review. I guess my concern is, is it safe to be wearing a battery operating jacket? Will it explode?

  22. Thank you for an insightful article.  I haven’t come across a heated jacket before and having never owned one, I am curious as to how they operate.

As a youngster I was always taught to dress to the weather conditions. With the Ororo jacket, it would tend to throw that advice out the window.  Do you have to be careful about how many layers of clothing you wear under the jacket in case you either get way too hot or the battery runs out and you start freezing? Also, does the jacket have a standard operating temperature range (ie. can only be worn in outside temperatures within a certain range)?

    • I think the amount of clothing you wear under the jacket is based on personal preference. If you want to be extremely warm, then it’s probably a good idea to wear more layers. Also, there’s the option of purchasing extra batteries so if one does run out, you can just pull out another fully charged one. And I haven’t seen anywhere on their website about a standard operating range, but that’s a great question. If I come across so more info about that I’ll leave another reply under this comment.

      Thanks for reading!

  23. We are in the winter season in the part of the world where we live. When compared to the previous years, this year winter is the coldest. I have recently came across Ororo heated jacket on an ad, it got my interest and attention mainly because of the carbon fiber heating elements.

I wanted to do some research to find out more information and came across your thorough and comprehensive review post. Thanks a lot, your review saved my time.

The price is under my budget and the amazon reviews are also good. I am happy to notice on the ORORO Men’s Lightweight Heated Vest there are 4 carbon fiber heating elements.

This is one of the best “very detailed” review on the Ororo heated jacket I have read. I loved how easy the review makes it for readers and no further research needed. You left no stone up-turned in explaining how it all works.

  24. Many thanks to you for sharing such a beautiful article with us .My brother had a jacket like this .The jacket is so beautiful that everyone says the choice is good .Sadly, it was able to be used in one winter .This jacket was not suitable for use next year .The jacket was easily damaged after washing with a battery and thermal insulation air .My brother’s jacket was fairly cheap .That is why I do not know whether it was damaged .But the jacket that was given in your article this time, I must take it .Because I read this article and found that all the components made with this jacket are much better than that jacket. I think this jacket will never be wasted if I can use it with care .I’ll definitely check out the link you provided and check out this jacket.

  25. Just what I need a heated jacket. Being that I live in the midwest (and I’m always cold) this jacket will be perfect for me. I even like the fact that I can charge my phone. The vest would be nice as well. I see you mentioned a few complaints in regards to size. Would you consider the Ororo jacket to be true to size?

    • I’m not exactly sure. I’ve seen some complaints where the jacket fit smaller than expected. So it might be best to order a size up

  26. I guess I’d have to say that I don’t enjoy the feeling of being cold, just like you. The ororo does seem like a cool jacket to add to a list of others. I must say though, I’ve never had the pleasure of using a heated jacket before. It is really interesting to know that the heating temperature can be controlled. That is such a cool feature. There’s no arguing that the benefits far outweighs those minor complaints.

    Thanks for sharing

  27. I love the Ororo jacket the fact that it can provide warmth on even the coldest days of the year. I like the article being written it explained very well on how the jacket be use. The article is self explanatory about the style and how does it. The work. You are right that the benefits of using it  can make a big difference for those working, exploring, and traveling in cold weather.

  28. Hello there. Nice to see you share your helpful review of Ororo Heated Jacket based on your research and opinions regarding the product to help us make a well informed purchase decision. I too am not a fan of cold weather although I like it not too cold and not too hot. This jacket looks and feels really astonishing as I haven’t say anything like it before. Technology keeps surprising me. It’s very easy to operate just as you have explained it. I love the fact that we can use the battery as powerbank to charge our mobile devices. Nice product and I think the price I just saw on Amazon is worth it.

    Peace out!

  29. This was a very thorough review of the Ororo jacket! Thank you! You answered most of my questions. One of my questions, though, is if this jacket is warm without the heating element? Is it good for a cool day that doesn’t quite need the heating elements? Thanks for sharing this. I live in a cold climate and can definitely use this to get out more in the winter.

    • Yes without the heating elements it still provides the basic functionality of a jacket. The heating elements just give it an extra boost. Thanks for reading!
